The best comment I have yet read about the Costa Concordia shipwreck comes from the Vox Populi blog (via Instapundit):
Those big, burly crewmen shoving aside women as they prioritized their own escape should have been wearing t-shirts that said "this is what a feminist looks like".
Heh.
How true! I recall once some years ago arriving at the entrance to a city building at the same time as a woman and automatically holding the door open for her. She put on an ugly face and shouted I was sexist as she pushed her way through ahead of me. Needless to say I have not made the same mistake again.

Like firefighters have to enter a burning building, soldiers have to engage armed people etc. The crew are contracted to serve the passengers even in a time of crisis. Their contract of employment ties them to that.
It's strange that law and order, free market types like you and teddy beale should let your blind hatred of women subsume your actual respect for the binding nature of contracts. But I guess that is what you get for not thinking things through.

Let me get this straight Mr. Harebell: bemoaning the loss of the "women and children first" ethos equals "blind hatred of women."
Huh?
Psst. Here's a little secret: women are not the same thing as feminists.

You weren't bemoaning it, you were oozing schadenfreude in an attempt to make a pretty sad point, while sacrificing the concept of adhering to a signed contract.
As for the last bit, I laugh because otherwise I'd cry

My husband once held he door for a women, and she told him that men only did that so they could look at women's butts!

Harebell, you are spouting rubbish. Recognising that the hard core feminist agenda succeeded in ending any concept of traditional chivalry in the name of "equality" and then complain when they are treated as equals has nothing to do with hating women. The point is that they cannot have it both ways. Furthermore you talk of the crew's contract, but unless you have seen it and can confirm what is actually written, you would be better to leave that one be.

Alain and Cin
Your assertions that you weren't targeting women but rather the feminists would have some credence if the source of your inspiration hadn't actually said the opposite.
"Women have methodically attacked the concept of male duty and honor through every possible means for the past ninety years, and now they are whining that they don't get special treatment simply because a ship happens to be sinking."
Women not feminists. Unlike the pair of you I read the inspiration for your post.

In my youth, I remember a date telling me that she could open the car door by herself, thank you very much. It was discouraging, but I never stopped doing what my father had taught me. I still open doors for ladies, take off my hat when I enter a room, and stand up when a lady approaches. My wife doesn't seem to object, and my son is following the same rules. He does not get the same backlash I did. Thank goodness.
Maybe there is hope.
