The article goes on to describe the ways in which Vladimir Putin is more ruthless and proactive than the management in the Ukraine when it comes to putting down dissent. The author also predicts that Putin will reaction the the current disturbances by cracking down even harder in Russia in order to prevent what is happening there from migrating eastwards. Of course, the more he does this, the less legitimacy he has left. In the end, regimes based only on fear are isolated and brittle and are hated by the populace. Putin’s salad days as the savior of Russia are over.
